On September 19, 1827, a battle broke out with a Mississippi River sandbar. What commenced as a proper duel amongst two noteworthy Louisiana family members led to a skirmish where Jim Bowie, originally only a supporter on the sidelines, was shot and stabbed in advance of drawing out a large knife an
